A major New Zealand writer, Sargeson turned New Zealand writing in new directions from the 1930s onward. He led an "uncompromising, colourful life as a fulltime writer, often poverty stricken, and supported younger writers such as Janet Frame and C K Stead." He was also homosexual in a time when this was less accepted, and this effected his life and writing profoundly.

Penguin, 1995. First edition.

Condition: very good. Minor tears to dustjacket at top of spine. Inscribed. Hardback.
